Jupiter's Moon Spewing Water Jets

New evidence has shown that Jupiter's icy moon Europa throws jets of water out into space.

Scientist first reported the behaviour in 2013 using the Hubble telescope but may have now made a follow-up sighting. It is significant because Europa is one of the most likely places to find microbial life beyond Earth because of its big ocean of liquid water. Fly through the jets with an instrumented spacecraft would be an effective way to test the possibility.

Hubble telescope finds new moon

hubbleThe Hubble space telescope has found a tiny moon circling the dwarf planet Makemake.

Makemake is only 1300km wide , much smaller than planet Earth and its lately discovered moon is just 160km across.
The team who found the moon says was hard to spot because of how bright Makemake is.

The small planet is part of the Kuiper belt, an area past Neptune that also enclose Pluto.
Makemake was before thought not to have a moon unlike the other dwarf planets near it. Now it's no longer the odd one out.

For the time being, NASA has called the new moon MK2. Hopefully it will be given a more important name in the future.
