Matariki

Last week Room 12 were studying and learning about Matariki.

The word Matariki is the Maori name for a star cluster, it is also known as Pleiades. Matariki actually means the 'eyes of god' or 'little eyes'. Matariki is celebrated during the winter solstice. When the new moon rises it is a signal of the Maori New Year. On Matariki people come together,  grow crops and some people even attend festivals.
